Not financial advice

Everything on Option Trading is published for educational and informational purposes only. It is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security.

We are not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, or financial planner, and nothing here is personalised to your situation. We do not know your income, obligations, risk tolerance, time horizon, or tax position — all of which matter more than any strategy write-up. Before acting, do your own research and consider speaking to a licensed professional.

Options involve substantial risk

Options are leveraged instruments and are not suitable for every investor. You can lose money quickly, and with some strategies you can lose more than you initially invested.

A few specifics worth stating plainly:

  • Selling uncovered (naked) calls carries theoretically unlimited risk.
  • Cash-secured puts obligate you to buy shares that may have fallen well below your strike.
  • Covered calls cap your upside while leaving your downside largely intact.
  • Assignment can happen early, particularly around dividends.
  • Spreads and multi-leg positions carry execution, liquidity, and pin risk near expiration.

Read the Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options published by the OCC before trading options. Your broker is required to provide it.

About the candlestick scanner

The scanner is a pattern-detection tool, not a signal service. It reports that a named candlestick formation appeared in the price data. It does not predict what happens next, and it is not a recommendation to trade.

Please understand its limits:

  • Patterns are detected algorithmically by TA-Lib and reflect that library’s specific definitions. Other tools may classify the same candles differently.
  • Data comes from Yahoo Finance and may be delayed, adjusted, revised, or wrong. We do not independently verify it.
  • Results are end-of-day only. They are not real-time and should not be used for intraday decisions.
  • A detected pattern is a description of what already happened, not a forecast. Most candlestick patterns have weak and inconsistent predictive power in isolation.
  • Any historical frequency or performance statistics shown are backward-looking, drawn from a limited sample, and exclude trading costs, slippage, taxes, and dividends.

Past performance does not indicate future results.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links, including links to brokers. If you open an account or make a purchase through one, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

This does not change what we write. We link to brokers we consider genuinely worth comparing, and any comparison or review that contains affiliate links says so. You should still compare offers yourself — commission structures differ and the best broker for us may not be the best for you.

Advertising

This site displays third-party ads via Google AdSense. Advertisements are served automatically and their presence is not an endorsement. We do not control which ads appear. Be especially sceptical of any ad promising guaranteed returns, signals, or trading systems — treat those as advertising, not as content from this site.

Forward-looking statements

Market commentary, price targets, and outlook pieces reflect opinion at the time of writing and will often turn out to be wrong. Articles are dated; we do not systematically revisit or correct old market calls.

No warranty

This site is provided “as is”. We make no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for purpose of anything published here, including scanner output, calculator results, and written analysis. Calculators are simplified models that ignore commissions, fees, taxes, early assignment, and dividends.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or reliance on its content. You are solely responsible for your own trading and investment decisions.
